Accessibility statement
Accessibility
We want everyone to be able to use this website: children, parents, carers and teachers, whatever device or setting they use. This page says what the site does, how we check it and what we know is not perfect yet.
Our target
We aim for this website to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. It has not yet had an independent audit.
What the site does
- Keyboard. Every link, button and form works with a keyboard alone, with a clearly visible focus outline and a "Skip to content" link at the top of each page.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, nothing slides, fades or rotates: the front page cards stay still and pictures do not drift.
- Light and dark. Every page opens in light mode. A switch at the top changes to dark mode and remembers your choice in this browser only.
- Contrast. Text is checked against its background for a contrast of at least 4.5 to 1, in both light and dark mode.
- Phones and zoom. Pages reflow to fit a phone screen without sideways scrolling, and text can be enlarged with the browser's own zoom.
- Tap targets. Buttons and links are at least 48 pixels tall, so they are easy to tap.
- Pictures. Every picture that carries meaning has a text description. Screens from the game are labelled as real screens, and decorative pictures are hidden from screen readers.
- Screen readers. Pages use headings and landmarks in order. Moving content, such as the front page cards, is never announced while it moves.
- Forms. Every field has a visible label, and any problem is described in words next to the field it belongs to.
- Nothing from other websites. The site loads no third-party fonts, adverts, trackers or embedded players, and sets no tracking cookies.
How we check
Every change to the site is checked on a phone-sized screen and a laptop-sized screen, in light and dark mode and with reduced motion: for sideways scrolling, colour contrast, tap-target size, missing picture descriptions and content that moves the page while it loads. We also go through each page with a keyboard.
What we know is not perfect yet
- Some screens from the game show small text inside the picture. The text around each picture describes what matters, but not every word on the screen.
- The printable flyer is designed for A4 paper; on a phone it is shown scaled down, so you may need to zoom in to read it.
- This statement covers this website. The game itself, at play.timestablesquest.com, will have its own statement.
